Jesse Hagelstein

Graduate Student

Jesse is a joint Physics PhD student co-advised by Profs. Matteo Mitrano and Philip Kim. In the Kim group, he uses advanced nanofabrication to build complex 2D materials—such as twisted nodal superconductors; in the Mitrano group, he develops novel optical techniques to probe their properties in and out of equilibrium. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with Prof. James McIver at the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter and the University of Hamburg, where he investigated exotic transition-metal dichalcogenides using optoelectronic techniques. Outside the lab, Jesse is an enthusiastic foodie always hunting for the best spots in Boston, and he enjoys playing tennis and going to the gym.
